Error messages and actions for MTM-HF chargers
Error messages in alphabetical order and suggested actions
ACID CIRC. ERROR
Only if acid circulation is activated. Requires hardware.
The air pressure was too high or too low during the main charging. The charging factor for a standard battery is used.
Possible causes: The air hose is not connected. Leakage. Trapped hose. Air pump failure.
Action: Check the air pump, connections and hoses.
Ah LIM. EXCEEDED
The charged capacity exceeds the programmed battery capacity value during the I1 or U1 phase. The I1 or U1 phase is terminated and the I2 phase starts.
Possible causes: Incorrect value programmed. Hot battery. Faulty cell. Deeply discharged battery.
Action: Check battery. Check programming.
ALGORITHM ERROR
The programmed value of the charging curve is unknown for the charger.
Action: Program the correct value in “set charging algorithm” under “service”.
BATT. ID UNKNOWN
Only if the IDB function is activated. Requires hardware.
The ID of the battery is unknown to the charger.
Possible causes: The battery ID has not been programmed.
Action: Read the battery ID, then program this ID and corresponding data into the memory. See the separate instructions for the IDB system.
BATTERY FAULT dI
Only if the function is activated in “Control register 1”.
The current does not drop during the U1 phase. The U1 phase is terminated and the I2 phase starts.
Possible causes: Hot battery. Faulty cell. Other battery problems.
Action: Check the battery.
BATTERY FAULT dU
Only if the function is activated in “Control register 1”.
The voltage does not increase during the I1 phase. The I1 phase is terminated and the I2 phase starts.
Possible causes: Hot battery. Faulty cell. Other battery problems.
Action: Check the battery.
C/S ERR IDB DATA
The database where the IDB data is stored is invalid or not initialised.
Possible causes: The computer PCB is new and has no basic programming. Programming is terminated incorrectly (the charger is shut off during programming).
Action: If the IDB system is in use, check the programmed values. Adjust any incorrect values. Finish programming by pressing # followed by *. Turn the charger off and then on again.
If the IDB system is not in use, use the “Clear all IDB data” function under “Service”. Then press * until the standard screen is displayed. Turn the charger off and then on again.
C/S ERROR EEPROM
Data stored in the EEPROM, or the corresponding checksum, is incorrect.
Possible causes: The computer PCB is new and has no basic programming. Programming is terminated incorrectly (the charger is shut off during programming).
Action: Check and adjust the programmed values. Reprogram at least one value. Finish programming by pressing # followed by *. Turn the charger off and then on again.
CHARGER CODE ERR
The programmed value of the charger code is not valid.
Action: Check and reprogram the charger code. (See 5.1.1 & 5.1.2 charger codes).
CHARGER FAULT I^
The output current is presently too high. Charging is terminated temporarily and restarts after a moment. Repeated errors will cause the charger to shut off permanently.
Possible causes: Faulty PCB.
Action: Hand in the charger for maintenance.
CHARGER FAULT I>
The output current exceeds the programmed value.
Possible causes: Faulty main PCB.
Action: Hand in the charger for maintenance.
CHARGER FAULT U^
The output voltage is presently too high. Charging is terminated temporarily and restarts after a moment. Repeated errors will cause the charger to shut off permanently.
Possible causes: Bad connection between the charger and the battery. Bad connection on the battery. Faulty PCB.
Action: Always presses 0-button to interrupt the charging before disconnecting the battery. Check battery connections.
CHARGER FAULT U>
The output voltage exceeds the programmed value.
Possible causes: Bad connections. Faulty PCB.
Action: Hand in the charger for maintenance.
HARDWARE VER ERR
The programmed value of “hardware code” is out of range or invalid.
Action: Program a valid value (under “service”).
N.B.: the current program version does not display the programmed hardware code value. (See 5.1.3 Hardware code)
HIGH DC VOLTAGE
The back voltage of the battery connected to the charger is higher than the value programmed in “upper start limit”.
Possible causes: There are too many cells. Incorrect value in “No. of cells”. Incorrect value in “upper start limit”. A newly charged battery is connected to the charger.
Action: Check the rating plates on the battery and charger. Check the programming.
HIGH TEMPERATURE
When the internal temperature of the charger is too high, the output power falls. This message is displayed when the output power is 0.
Possible causes: Faulty fan. Vent openings covered. A lot of dust inside the charger. Faulty temperature sensors. High ambient temperature.
Action: Check the fan. Free the vent openings. Clean the charger.
I1 TIME EXCEEDED
The maximum I1 phase time has been exceeded. The I1 phase is terminated and the I2 phase starts.
Possible causes: Hot battery. Faulty cell. Deeply discharged battery. Incorrect programming.
Action: Check the battery. Check the programming.
IDB COM. ERROR
Only if the IDB function is activated. Requires hardware.
The data sent from the battery’s IDB unit is invalid.
Possible causes: Faulty IDB unit. Faulty IDB transceiver (inside the charger). Long cables.
Action: Try to restart the IDB unit by disconnecting the power. Replace the IDB unit or transceiver.
IDB COM. TIMEOUT
Only if the IDB function is activated. Requires hardware.
The charger is not able to communicate with the battery’s IDB unit.
Possible causes: Faulty IDB unit. Blown fuse on the IDB unit. Faulty IDB transceiver (inside the charger). Long cables.
Action: Try to restart the IDB unit by disconnecting the power. Check the fuse in the positive cable of the IDB unit. Replace the IDB unit or transceiver
LOW DC VOLTAGE
The back voltage of the battery connected to the charger is lower than the value programmed in “lower start limit”.
Possible causes: There are too few cells. Incorrect value in “No. of cells”. Incorrect value in “lower start limit”. The battery is deeply discharged. Faulty cell. Bad connection.
Action: Check the rating plates on the battery and charger. Check the programming. Check the battery and its connections.
MAX. OUTPUT
The current is zero or near zero although the charger is trying to deliver maximum power.
Possible causes: A phase is missing. Faulty PCB.
Action: Check the mains fuses. Hand in the charger for maintenance.
OFFSET ERROR I
The output signal from the current sensor is not at the specified value when the charger is started.
Possible causes: Faulty PCB.
Action: Hand in the charger for maintenance.
OVERPRESSURE
Only if acid circulation is activated. Requires hardware.
The air pressure is greater than the value programmed in “Overpressure”.
Possible causes: Trapped air hose.
Action: Check the air hoses.
PHASE ERROR
A phase is missing.
Possible causes: Blown mains fuse. Bad connection in the mains plug or terminal blocks.
Action: Check the mains fuses. Check connections.
TRANSD. ERR TEMP
The signal from the temperature sensor in the internal cooling fin is out of range.
Possible causes: Faulty sensor. Bad connection.
Action: Replace the sensor.
TRANSD. ERR T
The signal from the temperature sensor in the transformer or choke is out of range.
Possible causes: Faulty sensor. Faulty PCB.
Action: Switch the “temp 1” and “temp 2” connectors in connector J7 on the main board. If the fault follows the sensor, replace it. If the fault follows the input channel, replace the main PCB.
TRANSD. ERR. IDB
Only if the IDB function is activated. Requires hardware.
The IDB unit reports a temperature out of range.
Possible causes: Faulty battery temperature sensor (short circuit or bad connection). Faulty IDB unit.
Action: Replace the sensor or IDB unit.
U1 TIME EXCEEDED
The maximum time of the U1 phase has been exceeded. The U1 phase is terminated and the I2 phase starts.
Possible causes: Hot battery. Faulty cell. Deeply discharged battery. Incorrect programming.
Action: Check the battery. Check the programming.
UNDERPRESSURE
Only if acid circulation is activated. Requires hardware.
The air pressure is lower than the value programmed in “Underpressure”.
Possible causes: Leaking air connections. Broken air hoses. Faulty air pumps.
Action: Check the air hoses, connections and air pumps.
